    Welcome

TRUE NORTH is a family-oriented level 75+ guild. We are a group of friends that like to get together for Adventure, Raids, and Roleplay. We encourage a laid back atmosphere, with no pressure to do WRITS or RAIDS. We want you to feel free to advance at your own pace, and feel comfortable at home and in our family. We have a variety of skilled players that are happy to help you with quests, or item needs. If you are interested in joining please, while in game, tap 'u', scroll to True North and click!

(ps: when applying to this site, please use the name of your character that is in guild, otherwise I will not grant full access - I need to know who you are! ~arb)

    Quick Tips & Tricks

Some folk expressed confusion over the times of events - well the times show to each member according to the time zone they have set for their own preference.  How to set your Time Zone?  Across the top of the page there is a link for Characters/Settings, click that.  On the next page click Preferences.  Here you can see several options that can be changed, but we are looking for your Time Zone.  Click the drop down box next to Time Zone.  Scroll through until you find the time that you use in your local area, click on that.  Do remember that there may be MULTIPLE choices for a base zone, such as there are two Eastern US Time Zones, one is for Indiana which does not bother with Daylight Savings.  Once you have chosen your time zone (& made any other changes you desire) click on SAVE PREFERENCES.  Once it has saved (the page usually blinks) you can return to True North by clicking on the tiny link across the top of the page called 'Return to Group".

Items from the Guild Bank are often removed and sold via consignment by Arbreth, especially if they sit there forever and are not used for Mail Lotto.  If you see an item that is listed for sale by PUGA in ARBRETH's box at 3 Tranquility in SQ (the SQ Guild House), then those are Guild Items.  If you need something form there, either purchase it and send her a mail so she can re-imburse you, or send her a tell and she will retrieve it for you.  Monies from these sales are deposited into GB4 roughly once a week.

    Sigh...

    :)

I owe you folks another TWO month newsletter - good grief!

    (Kitty is such a slacker...)

However we are very close to 74!  Grats to you folks for all your hard work (and I know the world events keep distracting you, it's ok, really.)

I will write more, I promise, later (yeah, later...)

    Hugs,

    Arbreth

Congratulations True North on reaching 70!

Ten more levels before I owe you all a mannequin, providing we hit 80 by July 23rd. You realize that is 13 weeks away? I had hoped for AA Respec mirrors too, but in order to do that I have to be in hunts where the shard thingy drops, though I probably could see if the prices are more reasonable on the broker yet. Same for the rare pelt, my fuzzy tail needs to get out there and harvest those for the mannequins and all of the other components needed to make these items. Ok, so I have most of it other than the rares, but there is a reason they are called rare...

Thinking on that, we are growing again, and I do not just mean all our alts. (grins) This is a good thing as long as we remember that we are here for each other, and do not forget to help in some way all of our new folk, and a few of the older ones. It is not our size or level that makes us special, it is our attitude and willingness.

Some of you have noticed a shuffling in the rank structure with the absorbing of alts into the Navigator and Pilots and the addition of two new ranks, only one of which has folk in it. First about the Uncharted, this rank was created for those that will be on leave for an extended period and reminds me to not accidentally boot those characters. This rank has no privileges other than access to guild chat and mail, which also makes it a good time out spot. Why the restrictions? Due to the increased rate of hackings it was determined that a safe place should be had where we would not have to resort to bootings to ensure the safety of guild resources. So not only is this rank for those on leave, but it is to secure suspicious behaviors. Should you go on leave, or find yourself Uncharted, you would simply need on return to notify an officer of your control of that account. Do not be surprised if we ask some strange trivia questions so you can prove who you are!

The other new rank, Cartographer, will be for those members that are veterans in True North, and I think it would be fun to have a ceremony moving those folk up. Perhaps that same weekend in July when I will owe you gifts! Cartographer does have a bit more permissions than Explorer, but is not an officer rank.

Officers... That thought leads me to the next topic, Wednesday's Crafting nights. Lately I have been working two jobs (in RL, though you would think being your Guild Leader should keep me busy enough) and that 2nd employment often has me working until midnight EST on Wednesdays. I am asking that our officers please step up and continue to hold this event even if I cannot be there. I will ensure the rent is paid on both houses, and I will reimburse the cost of whatever fuels or supplies you purchase for the crafters. I truly do not want this even to expire as it is not only for crafting, but for RP as well. These are listed in the Events calendar so please remember to attend!

Speaking of events, kudos to all those that are running HQs! I an very happy to see groups of TN folks in the same zone all grumbling about the latest Horror Quest they are slogging through! (LOL) Honestly, it is not as bad as that, and many of them are fun, interesting, and rewarding, especially with the right group.

Another thought (amazing, my mind is actually working today) Groups. We are often complimented on how well our folk work with others not in our guild, and I always love the jaw dropping when one of our ragtag & mixed matched groups takes out something that a 'perfect' group has issues with. This is because as casual players we learned our own classes very well soloing various mobs, then as we group with others in guild, we may find ourselves needing to stretch a bit and try new things. I encourage this! Let your healer scout, your tank cast spells, your scout tank and your mage heal or whatever combination you come up with. Use those secondary abilities that the more rigid guilds frown on as untraditional. The ability to use those skills helps you in the long run. Also, learning what other classes can do, and cannot, and learning to work within, then beyond, those capabilities makes us more nimble and willing to go to new places, or revisit old ones in new ways. I am not saying that we would never need a plate tank for some things, or at least prefer one, but if all you have is an enchanter and a rogue and maybe a cleric, go for it! The mob or zone will require a bit of extra thinking on your part, and cooperation, not to mention a dash of creativity mixed with patience but you will make progress.

Which reminds me that I did so want to have more 'classes' or write ups from our veterans on how to play (overplay- grins) their class, and the best way to work with those classes. Something along the lines of my “10 Healer group/raiding requests (please)” will work. Or for those that prefer, get a bunch of folk together and show them how to do it (Anastarisa is very good at this, you will never look at AOEs the same again).

Now that I have fit two months worth of newsletter in one column, I have a bit of fun coming myself as does Adelyna. On Tuesday, April 22nd, she will be a guest on Jethal Silverwing's show, the next Tuesday, April 29th, I will be chatting with him online and on air - live! (Mrowr!) There is a link on our Links page to Online Gaming Radio under the Just for Fun category, you can hear current shows and past ones from this site. Jethel's show is every Tuesday from 10pm-Midnight EST (that's 7pm-9pm for you west coasters).

    Hacking alerts!

This has been an increasing problem this past week & we have had guild mates attacked.  (You did not think I would boot Arelu otherwise?)

Folks, this is very serious & ultimately it is up to you to keep your information secure.  Personally, I just changed my password with SOE, I do not even have Outlook (Gmail!), we use Mozilla...

Please, if you come under attack, or see strange activity (TN strange?  I know, I know we are awful alt dancers *sigh*), please alert someone immediately.
